The Straight Dope: What do you call those liquid-filled glass things that
"snow" when shaken?

I've only heard snowglobe before-- didn't realize there was variation on this. Perhaps this belongs on the survey.

I used to work on a database for the European Commission's customs departement. It was supposed to contain terms for everything that could ever be imported into the EU in all EU-languages.
Apart from some bee-keeping equipment and most clothing, snowglobes caused the most trouble.
It turned out that everyone knows what they are, but no-one actually knows what to call 'em.
