The End.

I started ilani ilani on January 1, 2005, joining what was at the time a small community of linguistic bloggers. I was in California over winter break and a bit bored, if truth be told.

Tomorrow is the last day of classes I'll ever take as an undergraduate, and it seems a fitting time for a change. These days there are tons of linguistic blogs, so many that I can't even get through them all, and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before there's a dedicated linguistic podcast. I had always hoped that I would find my niche in the blogosphere, but to tell you the truth, I've been too afraid of stirring up controversy to write about anything I'd really like to talk about, and as a consequence, this has become kind of a link blog. That's never how I wanted it to be, nor do I have much desire to continue it as such. So... this is it. I'll leave the archives up, but I won't be posting any more here.

Well, everyone, it's been a lot of fun. Thank you to all my readers of both the active and lurking varieties! I'm sure we'll be seeing each other on other sites.

Oh, fooey! say it ain't so!

What about those moments in grad school when you really need to vent about push chains? Who ya gonna turn to?

but if it's really true, then, thanks for the great reading! and pls come back to it sometime...

I spose it's more dignified to officially exit than to just fade away, which I expect to do...

Damn, I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope that once you find your footing in grad school you'll discover you have more to say (and hopefully less fear about saying it, if you are lucky enough to have a supportive department, unlike the one that drove me from the field...). In any event, it's been a pleasure reading you!

Sorry to see you go, but congrats on graduating and good luck. And do leave the archives up in case you decide to come back to it!

This announcement is met with sadness. But I suspect you'll be back...not to make this into a metalinguablogospheric comment/discussion, but are there really THAT many lx blogs (with regular postings)? Have I gotten comfortable in my blogroll and oblivious to some of them? If you look at Language Log's (admittedly VERY long) blogroll I think a lot of those links aren't really active anymore. Whatever - anyway, the point is I think there's still opening for some more serious, hard-hitting commentary from the grad student side of things.

Maybe you will fool us all and establish a new completely anonymous, controversy-stirring-up blog? I hope so.

Sad to see you go, but I'll console myself wtih the belief that you won't be able to quit. Give it a couple of months and you'll be back :)

Hi Bridget,

I never commented here, but I read your blog regularly. It's a pity you decided to stop, but I'm sure we'll meet you again somewhere in the blogosphere... Good luck!

Peter

Congrats and good luck, Bridget! Bummer that you're closing this blog. If you're still interested in anything phonology, might I suggest phonoloblog?

Don't underestimate the value of linking - I came across lots of things here! I enjoy your blog a lot.
I know, it's all a plot to get me to do more work, isn't it :)

I have just discovered your very interesting site and I am sorry to find you are closing down. But I am sure your new site will be as entertaining.

May I make a request? I thought I had saved the Anglo-Saxon version of Rudolf the Socially Challenged Ungulate but alas, it didn't work and now I am bereft. I would dearly like a copy, so may I please ask you for a googleable source? I would like this very much. I got halfway through it before its identity crept in, and I have never studied any A_S at all!
